April is a time of new beginnings. Let your mind be free for a moment to consider renewal opportunities available for you this month. Black women are often so busy caring for home, job, church, neighborhood, extended family, friends and whomever comes into our lives that we don't take time to breath, rest, rejuvenate. You must be aware of the dangers of over-commitment -- stress, hypertension, exhaustion, irritability, lack of focus, disorder, inability to follow through, lack of sleep and overeating to name a few. Get it right this Spring. Nature rests and rejuvenates. Why not you. Take an hour off for you today. Here are 10 steps to get you started: 1. Take 10 minutes to just sit and breath in slowly and deeply (mouth closed). Make each time you inhale longer than the last. Breath out slowly. 2. Take nine minutes to recite positive re-affirmations to you about you. I am a child of God. I am a priceless gift to humanity. I am unique among all others. I was ordained by God to be here. I have a divine purpose. I am free to be me. I love myself. I learn something new about me everyday. I deserve to live a good life. I am a caring person. I do not intentionally harm others. I seek opportunities to give back. I am not alone. I have many positive things in my life. I am blessed. I am alive. I am loved. I am thankful. Thank you Lord for giving me one more day! 3. Take eight minutes to drop a note of support, thanks, sympathy, congratulations or just a hello to someone who does the same for you or someone who could really use a positive message from you. 4. Take seven minutes to walk up and down some steps briskly to invigorate yourself. Our lives are too sedentary and we are becoming obese and greatly at risk for many illnesses. A seven minute walkup 3 or 4 times everyday can get you started on an exercise program that can be not only invigorating, but life-saving. 5. Take six minutes to look at nature -- a bird in flight, a flower in bloom, a robin's nest, a blue sky a sunny day -- life is good. 6. Take five minutes to meditate and get in touch with your spirit. 7. Take four minutes to refresh your hair and make-up, to put some lotion on your hands, to look in the mirror and say, "Girl, you are something else!" 8. Take three minutes to make a to do list for the rest of the day 9. Take two minutes to remove half of the things off that to do list. 10. Take one minute to reflect on how good this hour you just gave yourself really was and commit to doing it again soon!
Happy Spring!
