Greetings BCW Sisterfriends:

As we move from Black History Month to Women's History Month, we have an opportunity to again celebrate the achievements of women, especially black women, who have contributed to our country and our world by their courage and profoundly visionary example.

If you haven't taken time to reflect on our black women role models and legacy messengers, do so, some time in this month. Black women's histories are sometimes unknown or invisible when people think of Women's History Month, sadly, even among some black women. Hopefully this is not the case for you.

For it is women like Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth and Ida B. Wells who led our paths to freedom and women like Rosa Parks who defied racist practices and began the Civil Rights Movement. Remember women like Mary Mcleod Bethune and Fannie Lou Hammer and Rosa Parks and Dorothy Height and Corretta Scott King who marched and protested for justice and equality. And we musnt not forget women like Lena Horn and Marian Anderson and Maggie Lena Walker and Madam C.J. Walker and Wilma Rudolph and Shirley Chisholm and Barbara Jordan and Patricia Roberts Harris and Johnetta Cole and Mary Francis Berry and Marcia Gillespie who broke glass and concerete ceilings for us, so that we could emerge in every kind of career arena and outperform the best. These black women's lives and dedication and achievements should continue to inspire us for they are our "sheroes.".

Throughout this month as we tread rough career waters and master the challenges of living balanced and productive lives, do not forget those who paved a way so that you can be where you are today. Isn't it a shame if you do not know some of these women and their histories? Change that.

Today we must also stop to reflect on unbelievable women like Oceola McCartney and Camille Crosby who by their unprecedented generosity are making a better way for our children. Fortunately, there are many other women continuing the legacy today by defying tradition and circumstance to make contemporary history for black women. For each of you who make that contribution every day, BCW salutes you!

Each month, we celebrate the achievements of black women on our website by profiling career women of achievement and courage and who are making contributions to our society in their own way. If you are such a woman, please let us know about you. Send BCW your Professional Profile (one page) and a business photograph on line to www.bcw.org

You may be one who is highlighted on our website some time in the future.

Meanwhile, visit our site often. Learn more about us. Become a BCW member in this our 25th Anniversary year. Answer our opinion poll. Post your resume. Take the MAPP assessment to learn more about your professional profile and how to leverage that information for greater career success.

Have a great month!
