BCW NEWSLETTER -- BLACK HISTORY MONTH EDITION

How time flies!
Here we are in the 2nd month of a new year, in the 2nd year of the new
century and millenium. Black History Month was designed to help us, and
all right-thinking Americans, to know, remember, treasure and celebrate the
contributions of black Americans to not only America, but also to World
history.

Because women have been thought, thoughout the annals of history, to be the
"Keepers" of the culture, it is so important that Black Career Women, first
and foremost, commit to keeping the faith. We must make it our business to
know, understand and never lose or forget our cultural legacy. Use this
Black History Month to be informed about our legacy. You must know that we
are the decendants of kings and queens. You must know that our ancestors
originated from the world's richest land mass -- the continent of Afica.
You must know that when our ancestors were building kingdoms and
universities others were still clawing their way out of caves. You must
remember that our ancestors endured the torments of the middle passage and
slavery and jim crow and black codes and black laws and still survived. You
must know that our struggle continues and that you can not absent yourself
from it. You must take strength and comfort in knowing that you come from a
people that would not die. You must know that we've come this far by faith
and that keeping the faith is our legacy to continue. You must know that
none of us are free until all of us are free. Are you keeping the faith?
Take this quiz and think:

Remembering Our Heritage-- Planning Our Future.

To Our Black Mothers
Yours and mine.
Who worked and struggled a lifetime
Without the choices we enjoy,
Who kept the faith and taught us
To be black, responsible and proud,
Who sacrificed for a lifetime
To make our vision of career advancement
Not just a frivolous notion, not just an impossible dream,
But somehow real and attainable.
To them we owe our todays
And all of our successes.

We will keep the faith!
